Travel the route of the early explorers!

Five hundred years ago, Samuel de Champlain explored the Ottawa River in a birch bark canoe.  Up until recently, it was impossible for small crafts to navigate what is one of the great historic rivers of North America.  Now, a system of six portages allows you to travel from as far as Montreal and the St.-Lawrence Seaway or the Rideau Canal in Ottawa to the Town of Mattawa.   

The Ottawa River Waterway offers almost 800 km of magnificent scenery to enjoy and experience.
